The Villa Bentota

The Villa Bentota

The Villa Bentota is the ultimate boutique hotel.

The service is attentive, the grounds are expansive, and the beach is minutes away.

This truly luxurious hotel is named after the world-renowned architect, Geoffrey Bawa, who in the 1970s converted the (then) Mohotti Walauwa ancestral home into Sri Lanka’s finest hotel.

The hotel perches beautifully between the river and the sea.

The nearby beach is miles of soft sand and warm, shallow water. Look out for elephants silhouetted on the horizon — a stirring sight you'll never forget.

The Villa Café boasts a wide selection of dining, with a menu created by the famous Sri Lankan chef Nishantha Liyanage.

Try the crab curry, there's no dish more fresh and flavoursome. Or the lemongrass and ginger chicken, or the wasabi-coated salmon with fresh cucumber salad... the choices are endless.

Desserts are amazing here too, especially served with a freshly-brewed, locally-sourced cup of coffee.

In each room, rain showers, mini bars, LCD TVs, and deluxe king size beds with Egyptian cotton bedlinen and feather pillows.

The larger Mohotti Suite suits families or a group of friends looking for that extra touch of luxury. Decorated with original antique Dutch four-posters and chairs, with opulent Persian rugs, the suite has a grand bathroom with free-standing tub, and a lounge area with grassy views.

Take a dip in the parasol-topped terrace swimming pool, or the inner courtyard pool surrounded by lawns and frangipani trees. The perfect swim in dappled sun and shade.

Also in the area, there’s the Bentota turtle hatchery, the Lunuganga garden estate — and lots of activities, such as day tours, water sports and boat rides.
